The work of Inclusive Excellence shows up in the programs we build and the communities we invest in.
Beyond our many partnerships across campus, here are some initiatives our office leads.

Campus Pulse Checks
We offer informal, low-stakes pulse checks as a way to stay connected to how our campus community is really doing. These check-ins give faculty, staff, and students a simple way to share their experience, and give campus leadership timely, meaningful feedback before small concerns become larger ones.
Unlike standard compliance surveys, pulse checks are conducted with cultural and restorative justice principles in mind, focusing on the depth of trust and connection across campus and inviting reflection on communication and community wellbeing. They are not about checking boxes. They are about listening. Pulse checks can be particularly useful during a unit reorganization, as a mid-program assessment, or as a tool for community building.
Career Development Mentorship Program
The Career Development Mentorship Program advances student success by providing first-generation and underrepresented students with access to mentorship, career exploration, and professional development opportunities. Participants are matched with trained peer mentors who help them clarify career goals and build pathways to meaningful careers. Through workshops, networking events, mock interviews, and experiential learning activities, students develop the skills, confidence, and connections needed to thrive. To promote equitable access and engagement, both mentors and mentees receive compensation for their participation.

In partnership with PACE, we also promote the Degree Plus program — a free pilot program available at UCSB and UCSD through 2027. Students who complete three courses earn a certificate of completion and a paid internship opportunity. We strongly encourage our mentees to take advantage of this program while it is available.

Unscripted Campaign for Healthy Masculinities
UCSB is one of 14 campuses selected for CATAPULT’s signature national campaign, “Unscripted,” (2025-2026 Academic Year) and leverages the power of storytelling to create authentic experiences for students to explore how expectations around manhood impact their communities and themselves.
CATAPULT: Campus Action for Healthy Manhood is an initiative designed to grow the leadership of college men to end violence through care, connection, and accountability. Tools, trainings, events, and student-centered campaigns encourage critical conversations about how we can cultivate healthier versions of manhood on college campuses.
